Slide Mount Class Part 4

<<  Part 3

Part 5  >>

The "shaker box" that we will be creating is kind of like a paper sandwich!  You have the frame which is the slide mount, then a clear window to keep the items inside, then the filling (the items that shake) then the bottom/back layer.

First we need to glue the "window" in place.  This can be any kind of clear plastic, like page protectors, or transparency film for overhead projectors, or I bet if you look around you can find something creative.  I just cut up the packaging that the actual slide mounts came in!

Glue the back of your slide mount all the way around.  I like the permanent Hermafix/Dotto glue runner. It gives a permanent adhesion.
Then place your window to the backside of the slide mount.
Walla!  Your own "miniature" window.
The next item you will need is foam tape.  The thicker the better in my book.  Most foam tape rolls come about this wide.... go ahead and cut a strip about the length of one side of the slide mount.
Cut that piece in half lengthwise.
I am frugal, so I cut mine in half again.  Waste not, want not!

Then you are going to place the foam tape around the window opening behind the window.

Do this all the way around, so that when place your shaker items inside, they cannot escape.

Trim your foam tape where needed.

This is what it should look like.
Leave the paper backing on the foam tape for now, or all your little beads will stick where you do not want them.

Place your shrink plastic leaves inside, and also place a few clear micro beads inside as well.  Don't put too many things inside your shaker box, or it might not shake. (Speaking from experience!)

This looks about right.
Now go ahead and remove the paper backing from the foam tape, and place your backing over the exposed tape.
A piece of scrap cardstock makes a good backing.
Here is a close up of the finished shaker box.
