Slide Mount Class Part 2

<<  Part 1

Part 3  >>

We are going to create a small shaker box with this slide mount.

We will need some things to fill the shaker box with, so let's make our own with our stamps and shrink plastic.

The shrink plastic needs to be lightly sanded before we stamp on it, so that the ink has some "tooth" to stick to.  These sanding blocks that we sell are perfect for this job. Sand in one direction, and then the other a couple times, then clean off with a dry cloth.

You need a certain kind of ink to stamp on the shrink plastic, and there are quite a few brands out their that will do the trick.  A few of my favorites are; Brilliance, VersaMagic, and StazOn.

I am using VersaMagic ink in Brick Red with a leaf image from our "Pressed Leaves" stamp set. (These are real leaves from the trees in  fields behind out house!)

After you have inked up your image, stamp the side of the shrink plastic that you sanded.
You will want to "heat set" your stamp image but "Do Not Shrink It Yet!  Move your heat tool around the image quickly, and you are too close if you see the plastic starting to buckle.  All you want to do here is to dry the ink so that you can cut it out with scissors.  If you shrink it now, it will be difficult to cut out.
I use a sharp pair of  "old" scissors.  You don't want to ruin a good pair.
I leave an edge around the image like this.
Why not make a whole tray full of leaves while you have all of the supplies out anyway?  You will find all sorts of uses for them!

I like to use my toaster oven for shrinking... it is smaller so it heats up faster than my regular oven.  You can of course use a regular oven.  "Cook" the shrink plastic at 325 degrees until they curl up, then lay flat back down again.

Be patient and wait until they are totally flat.

Here they are shrunk down!
