Flip Cards and Scrapbooking Elements - by
Melissa Baldwin
Ready to Flip Out?! In this class you will learn how to create a flipping element for all sorts of papercrafting projects... cards, scrapbook pages and albums. This class was adapted from a live online class |
| Hi Everyone and Welcome to Class! The first thing I want to do is introduce you to my assistant Pick-Up. She has been trying to help me have fun all afternoon by jumping on my chair..... usually while I am in it, but in this photo she was just trying to get my attention. Ok..... so now if some of my photo's are a little blurry you will know why..... Pick-Up! Now Let's start class! | ![]() |

We are going to create the "scrapbook flip" first. For this you will need 3 clear envelopes and a piece of cardstock 5.5 x 6 inches |
| You will notice that the clear envelopes have a self adhesive flap on one side | ![]() |
![]() |
You will want to peel that off... |
| Now flip the clear envelope over and center on the cardstock, with the adhesive strip hanging over at the top like this... | ![]() |
![]() |
Now flip the whole thing over and adhere the envelope to the back of the cardstock by folding it over and pressing |
| You will repeat that same process, but vary the length of the envelopes as shown. Place each envelope a little bit higher than the next. | ![]() |
![]() |
To insert your photo's you will flip up the first flap and insert it from behind as shown. |
| There ya go! Cool hugh?! | ![]() |
![]() |
Keeping filling up your flip album by placing the photo's back to back. Here is what it will look like completly full. These are my stamping friends Grace (L) and Denise (R). |
| You could stop there and glue that whole thing to your scrapbook page, but let's go a step further and add a frame to it! I am going to use one of the Flash Frames that we have on sale (buy one get one free!) | ![]() |
![]() |
The inside tag just punches out (use that for another project!) and then just cut off the one edge. |
| Looking good! | ![]() |
![]() |
There are lot's of ways you could attach the frame to the flip album, but I will show you a real easy way..... and for this you will need two "hinges" made from cardstock or pattern paper. The size can vary, and I think these were like 1.2 x 2.25 inches. |
| Fold your "hinges" in half and then glue them over the top of the album. Wala! Your done! | ![]() |
![]() |
Use this great flip album as the center piece of your next scrapbook page, just by glueing it into place! |
| Here are some more examples.... I used tags as hinges on this one. | ![]() |

Here is another version with a frame. I used tags again as hinges. |

OK... do I have you hooked yet?! Want to do
more? Let's make a free standing flip top album! This is the design I
demo'd on the Carol Duvall show and you will need the following sizes of
cardstock; 6.25 x 11 for the base of the card 6.25 x 7 for the cover of the card 8 x 4 for the easel 6 x 5.5 which you will attach the envelopes to All these pieces of cardstock, of course can be stamped or sponged, and some of them can be pattern paper. The possibilities are endless! |
| Take the side of the clear envelope that has the adhesive stripe and DO NOT take the strip off yet.... instead just turn it over for now... | ![]() |
![]() |
Now take you next envelope, tear off the self adhesive strip turn it over and glue it to the one you have laying on the table. For easy placement, line up the bottom of the envelopes. |
| Repeat that same thing with the remaining envelope and this is what it should look like. | ![]() |
![]() |
Now take the 6 x 5.5 piece of cardstock.... |
| Now you should have three layers of clear envelopes with the bottom one still having the self adhesive strip attached..... now take off the strip and center the envelopes on the cardstock | ![]() |
![]() |
Now flip the whole thing over, fold over the adhesive top and press down to glue. YOu will also want to make a nice crease with a bone folder or your finger nail |
| Now take your piece of cardstock that is 6.25 x 11 and fold it in half. This will be the "base" of your whole card. | ![]() |
![]() |
Now you can glue the envelope layer to the base of the card. I like Yes glue for this, as it is perfect for glue plastic like the clear envelopes. BTW, did I mention the the clear envelopes are acid free? |
| The next step is to take the 8x4 inch piece of cardstock and score it every two inches | ![]() |
![]() |
Accordion fold it like so..... |
| Then glue inside your base card | ![]() |
![]() |
Whala! |
| You will need a 6.25 x 7 inch piece of cardstock or pattern paper for the cover, and you will need to score it at 5.5 inches. | ![]() |
![]() |
Now glue the back flap |
| Now your flip top album is complete! | ![]() |

Here is another version of the free standing flip album |
| Here is a closer view of that one. This is another one of those Flash Frames that I stamped the word "Photographs" on, and outlined with a gold leafing pen. Oh! And of course.... the photo is another on of my assistants Sierra | ![]() |

Here are a few more views of the flip album using our stamp set Classic Etchings, and Framed Sentitments. |
